The Ogun State governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, CON; fca. has alleged sabotage over the frequent breakdown of the Armored Personnel Carriers which were allotted to provide security back-up in the Ijebu area of the state.
Amosun stated this in in Ogbere in the Ijebu East Local Government Area while reacting to the recent panic decision by managements of banks in the Ijebu Ode and Ijebu Igbo areas, which made them to close shops for some days.
While speaking to newsmen over the incident, Governor Amosun explained
“We stationed one in Ijebu Ode and another one in Ijebu Igbo because of the problems that were happening with our banks.
“We also stationed one in Ago-Iwoye, but other APCs are working except the ones in the Ijebu areas which break down every now and then.
“When we moved it and brought another new one, within a month, it will not work again.
“When we moved another one, within a very short time, it will break down again while the ones we moved away will be working in other places.”
Amosun added that "immediately the APCs which broke down in the Ijebu Ode and Ijebu Igbo area were moved to other locations, they would suddenly begin to work.
He also wondered why bank managements in the Ijebu area would know that an APC would not work the following day and for that reason would refused to open offices.
He explained that a text message was sent to him last Sunday predicting that the security vehicles in Ijebu would not work on Monday and as such, banks would not open, adding that as foretold, the APCs refused to work.
It should be noted that the same scenario played out in 2012 less than a year the Armoured Personnel Carrier was purchased when one of the newly acquired APC stationed in the area developed "mechanical" fault and has to be replaced before financial institutions in the area could continue their business.
Governor Amosun further challenged the traditional rulers in the area to help is sensitize people over the security situation in the area and state particular stating “We should all continue to relate peacefully. And in takiling about about security, our leaders must be involved. Please, our paramount rulers, I want you to help me sensitise the people that when we were to buy APCs, we bought 14 APCs and distributed to everywhere in the state. I am not saying this for saying sake."
