ONDO APC GUBER PRIMARIES: DEMYSTIFICATION OF A NATIONAL LEADER. By Adegbokiki Kamorudeen

As the popular saying that two captains cannot be in a ship (Oga meji o le dari oko Kan), so is the situation in APC immediately after the election of President Mohammed Buhari since 2015.

Although there is NO express provision for National Leadership of the Party (APC) in its Constitution, the tradition has been that the highest elected member of the Party at the National and State are the automatic Leaders at that level while other levels are based on consensus.

Back to the main discourse, upon emergence and consequent swearing in of President Muhammadu Buhari and other State Executives, the "traditional leadership" structure within the Party have shifted.

From Kano, Ekiti, Bayelsa, Taraba, Kaduna Oyo, Ogun, Lagos, etc...... the sharp division among the leadership of the Party from the regions have been highly pronounced and evident among the KEY PERSONALITIES involved.

In South-West for instance, before the 2015 general Election, the general consensus among the APC Members from the region was that Asiwaju Bola Ahmed TINUBU is the rallying point for the Party (APC) and "whatever" he says is FINAL (A Case Study of Ogun 2011 Governorship Candidate Choice, Ondo 2012 Governorship Candidate Choice Lagos State 2015 Governorship Candidate in 2015 and so on).

While Jagaban was having filled days all the while, many emerging Leaders like Governors, 3-Term National Assembly Members, Past Political Leaders (of the merging Political Parties) from and within the APC are being threatened that their potentials a d political relevance may soon go into extinctions IF they remain the "loyalty" games hence, the decision to form a new power bloc to checkmate Asiwaju Supremacy Politically.

These sharp division among many others are what the President Muhammad Buhari noticed and took advantage of while making his appointments into Federal Government Cabinet as many of "perceived breakaway" members from the Burdillon Dynasty led by Ogun State Governor Ibikunle Amosun made the list first before any considerations were given to what many people called "CORE TINUBU BOYS" were appointed into some Federal Boards and Parastatals.

It is no news although that the delivered votes as coordinated by TINUBU South-West "open his yansh" (apologies to Fela Anikulapo Kuti) to his electoral irrelevance in the region and further made it convenient for the "New Power Bloc " to articulate their position that Tinubu no longer enjoy wide acceptability in the region.

In 2012, it was so glaring that Asiwaju Tinubu was the one that singlehandedly choose, nominated and selected Rotimi Akeredolu SAN as the Ondo Guber Candidate against many interest's groups wishes. This singular act was responsible for the distant third position of Rotimi Akeredolu behind Olusola Oke of PDP and incumbent Governor Olusegun Mimiko of LP respectively.
This position is evident in a submission of an aide to Governor Amosun,  Ogunpola Damilola noting that "Aketi was rejected before in that state for two main reasons... He was not known by the grassroot and secondly he was piggy backed by the now defeated political guru. I think Ondo people did not like being piggy backed by outsider"

Now that a new "Leadership" is found in the President and Commander-In-Chief, who can easily rally every needed resources which inadvertently is the main reason why Asiwaju Tinubu was needed in the past but at a little costs.

The emergence of Rotimi Akeredolu as the APC Governorship Candidate in Ondo state is another test for Senator Bola Tinubu by the Presidency to note if he (Tinubu) will work against the interest of the REAL "National Leader of the Party" in the person of President Muhammad Buhari GCFR.
