Former President Olusegun Obasanjo had warned that the state should not be plunged into political violence.
Chief Obasanjo stated this on Wednesday at this year’s edition of Ibogun-Olaogun Day celebration in Ibogun, Ifo Local Government of the state, where the Governor of Ogun State, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, his political godson who is also the CandIdate of Allied People's Movement (APM), Hon. AbdulKabir Adekunle Akinlade, Prince Gboyega Nasir Isiaka, the gubernatorial candidate of African Democratic Congress (ADC) amongst other dignitaries were also in attendance.
Obasanjo was quoted to have directly asked Senator Amosun to caution his supporters against fermenting trouble and violence in the build up to the coming 2019 general election.
Speaking at the event, Obasanjo said "I am particularly happy that the Governor spoke against violence. I want to tell you, if you do not stop violence among your supporters, you will have yourselves to blame. There is no earthly reason why we should not have a peaceful election in the state".
It should be recalled that several candidates who are opposed to the choice of governor Amosun's candidate have at different occasions have their convoys attacked by hoodlums who are loyal to the state governor.
Recently, the campaign train of Prince Gboyega Nasir Isiaka was attacked in Yewa North Area of the state while that of Hon. Oladipupo Adebutu was also attacked somewhere around Oke Ogun Area of Abeokuta North.
Speaking further, "Ebora Owu" as the elderstatesman was fondly called had earlier pleaded with the number one citizen of the state to respect others people opinions in their choice of candidates for the governorship election in the state. "I have made my choice. It may not be in tandem with yours(Amosun). Let my choice be and let yours be and let God decide and whoever gets there let all of us support him." Baba Obasanjo stated.
